Roman mosaics at St Albans Abbey

Year 2 made some brilliant mosaics at the cathedral. We learnt how mosaics were important in Roman Britain and how they were designed.  We spent the afternoon at the cathedral making our own mosaics using tiles and pasting these onto a wooden square.  The children designed their own mosaic using the colours available and choosing their own pattern.  Some children also used the initial of their name for their inspiration and deliberately made a mistake (Romans deliberately made a mistake because they thought that nothing was perfect apart from Roman Gods).
